English Language and Literature

From entering Secondary at Key Stage Three, Pupils study aspects of English Language and Literature according to their level of development and understanding. This is in order to develop their functional literacy, to increase oral communication skills and to enhance their appreciation and enjoyment of all types of reading and writing.

The programme of work they follow ensures they are prepared for accreditation at Key Stage 4.

Different levels of accreditation are offered including GCSE English Language and English Literature; Functional Skills English and Entry Level English. Pupils are given opportunities each year to attend theatre visits to both local venues and The Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford. There is a school production each year in which all pupils are encouraged to participate.
