Contacting Staff

At Priestley Smith School, we believe that children learn best when supported by their families and community. We aim to work in partnership with parents and carers, to establish mutual understanding and respect and to find ways in which home and school can work together for the benefit of the child.

Our partnership depends on good communication. As a school we try to ensure that parents and carers are kept fully up to date with their child’s progress through Parents Evenings, annual review reports and annual review meetings, end of year reports, IEPs and half termly newsletters. Form teachers maintain regular contact with parents and carers to pass on information about student achievements or to discuss any concerns.

There are many reasons why parents and carers may also wish to contact their child’s teacher or other school staff e.g.

  • to inform the school of any intended absence or to explain why their child has been absent
  • to notify the school of medical appointments or give information about the outcomes of such appointments
  • to inform the school of events at home which may influence their child’s behaviour or needs
  • to discuss their child’s progress and ways in which they can support their child’s learning at home
  • to discuss any concerns they may have

We are keen to have good contact with parents and carers and to work in close partnership with them. There are therefore several ways in which parents and carers can contact the school and talk to specific members of staff or arrange a meeting with them:

The best time to contact Primary staff is between 8.30 a.m. and 8.50 a.m., 12.00 – 1.00 p.m. and after 3.30 p.m.

The best time to contact Secondary staff is between 8.30 a.m. and 8.50 a.m., 1.00 – 2.00 p.m. and after 3.30 p.m.

If these times are not convenient for you please phone the school and leave a message and staff will contact you as soon as possible.

Complaints Procedure

Priestley Smith School has excellent relationships with the parents and carers of the students and any concerns are usually easily resolved through the methods outlined above.

However, if any parent has a concern which they do not feel has been resolved through discussion with their child’s form teacher, they should discuss the matter with the Headteacher or Assistant Headteachers.

If still not satisfied, the Chair of the Governing Body, Denise McManus, may be contacted through the school.
